Why convert AVIF to WebP?
AVIF is based on the AV1 video codec and typically beats WebP by another 20–30% at the same quality, with transparency and HDR support. Browser support is universal since 2024, but many image editors, email clients and upload forms do not accept it yet.
WebP, developed by Google, stores photos 25–35% smaller than JPEG at equal quality and also supports lossless mode, transparency and animation. All current browsers open it; some desktop apps and older CMS uploaders still refuse it.
What changes in the conversion
Both formats are lossy. Each re-encode discards a little more detail, so convert from the original where possible and keep quality at 85 or above. Both formats support transparency, which is preserved. Animated AVIF files are converted to a still image of the first frame.

How it works on your device
Your browser decodes the AVIF file into raw pixels, draws them onto a canvas and asks its built-in encoder to write WebP. Nothing is sent to a server, which is why there is no file-size limit beyond your device's memory and no queue.
