Convert GIF to BMP
Drop GIF files and download them as BMP. GIF can hold transparency and BMP cannot, so transparent areas are filled with the background colour you choose (white by default). Conversion runs on your device, so large batches finish in seconds and nothing is uploaded.
How to use the GIF to BMP
- Drop or paste your GIF files (up to 200).
- No settings needed: the output is lossless.
- Click Convert to BMP.
- Download each file or all as a ZIP.
Why convert GIF to BMP?
GIF is limited to 256 colours per frame, which ruins photos but suits simple animations and flat graphics. It supports one-bit transparency (a pixel is either fully opaque or fully transparent).
BMP is the uncompressed Windows bitmap format. Files are very large (3 bytes per pixel) but trivially simple, which is why some legacy software, embedded systems and wallpaper settings still require it.
What changes in the conversion
Both formats are lossless; the image is preserved exactly and only the container changes. GIF can hold transparency and BMP cannot, so transparent areas are filled with the background colour you choose (white by default). Animated GIF files are converted to a still image of the first frame.

How it works on your device
Your browser decodes the GIF file into raw pixels, draws them onto a canvas and asks its built-in encoder to write BMP. Nothing is sent to a server, which is why there is no file-size limit beyond your device's memory and no queue.

Frequently asked questions
Does converting GIF to BMP lose quality?
Both formats are lossless; the image is preserved exactly and only the container changes..
Is there a limit on file size or number of files?
Up to 200 files per batch and no fixed size limit; processing happens in your browser.
Are my images uploaded?
No. The conversion runs on your device and works offline after the page loads.
What happens to transparent areas?
They are filled with the background colour you pick (white by default), because BMP has no transparency.
