Why convert HEIC to BMP?
HEIC is the default photo format on iPhone and iPad. It stores photos at roughly half the size of JPEG, but Windows, many websites, forms and older Android phones cannot open it, so conversion is often the only way to share.
BMP is the uncompressed Windows bitmap format. Files are very large (3 bytes per pixel) but trivially simple, which is why some legacy software, embedded systems and wallpaper settings still require it.
What changes in the conversion
BMP is lossless, so nothing further is lost in the conversion, but the HEIC compression already applied cannot be undone; the BMP file will be much larger without being sharper. Neither format stores transparency.

How it works on your device
Your browser decodes the HEIC file into raw pixels using a WebAssembly build of libheif, because browsers cannot open HEIC natively, draws them onto a canvas and asks its built-in encoder to write BMP. Nothing is sent to a server, which is why there is no file-size limit beyond your device's memory and no queue.
