Delete pages from a PDF
Drop blank scanner pages, cover sheets, internal appendices or a duplicated signature page. Type the pages to remove — or flip the mode and list only the pages worth keeping. The page count before and after is shown so you can check the result before you send the file on.
How to use the Delete PDF Pages
- Drop a PDF.
- Type the pages you want gone, for example 1, 4-6, 12.
- Switch to "Keep only these pages" if it is quicker to list the survivors.
- Click Delete pages and check the before/after count under the button.
Two ways round the same job
Removing three pages from a 200-page report is a job for Remove these pages. Pulling a four-page contract out of a 90-page bundle is faster with Keep only these pages — type 41-44 instead of listing everything else. The tool copies the surviving pages into a brand-new document in their original order, so the result is a clean file rather than a PDF with invisible leftovers.
What is kept and what is lost
Page content, fonts, embedded images, vector graphics, annotations and hyperlinks that point to a web address are copied intact. Two things do not survive, and it is better to know now than after you send the file: bookmarks (the outline tree in the sidebar) are not carried across, and internal links that pointed to a deleted page have nothing left to point at. Interactive form fields are copied as their current appearance.
Getting the numbers right
Use the page numbers your reader shows in its page box, which count from 1 and include covers and blank pages. They are often not the numbers printed on the page: a report whose body starts at "1" after four pages of front matter needs 5, not 1. Run the PDF info tool first if you are unsure how many pages there really are. Ranges are inclusive, so 5-7 deletes three pages, and 10- deletes page 10 to the end.
Common clean-ups
- Blank versos produced by a duplex scanner.
- The fax cover sheet or "this page intentionally left blank" filler.
- Internal pricing pages before a document goes to a client.
- A signature page that was scanned twice.
Removing pages is not redaction
Deleting a page removes that page and its content from the new file. It is not the same as redacting text on a page you keep: drawing a black box over words in any editor leaves the words underneath, where copy-and-paste or text extraction will find them. For genuinely sensitive material, delete the whole page, or flatten the page to an image with the compress tool after the box is drawn.
Frequently asked questions
Can I delete a range of pages at once?
Yes. Type ranges such as 5-9, and combine them with single pages: 2, 5-9, 14.
Does this keep bookmarks?
No. The outline tree is not carried into the new document, because entries pointing at deleted pages would be broken. Page content, links to web addresses and form appearances are preserved.
Can I delete every page except a few?
Yes — switch the mode to "Keep only these pages" and list the ones you want.
Is the deleted text really gone from the file?
Yes. Only the pages you kept are copied into the new PDF; nothing from a removed page is written to the output.
